Don't blame the snake

It may be "hard out there for a pimp" but it's harder for any film with a gay story line no matter how exquisite to be lauded as the best film in Hollywood. The crass ridiculousness of the pimp anthem winning best original song juxtaposed against the loss of the groundbreaking Brokeback Mountain (or one of the other best song nominee, Dolly Parton's "Travelin' Thru'") as best picture shouldn't want to make me hate the Academy all over again. After all, they were, appropriately, staying in character. They play at being liberal because it's better box office, all the while being fundamentally a moderately conservative bunch, much like this majority red country as a whole. The LA times summed it up quite nicely.

All I have to say is thank god for the Hollywood Foreign Press.
